Definitively I liked more the Asian version. Thanks!
Kathy (6/25/2008 @ 4:02 am)
Pretty great. ^__^ We didn\'t see much of Sadako, but the story line was great and it was cool how they were trying to figure out the mistery while their lives were at stake.
Tim (7/9/2008 @ 4:56 am)
Can\'t really decide which one is better, but both American and Japanese version have their own sweet spots. Great movie.
Raiven (7/22/2008 @ 1:05 pm)

I liked both American and Japanese versions of this; I think the American scenes of the ghost were creepier for some reason.
beegirl (10/12/2008 @ 7:08 pm)
Loved the way Sadakos face isnt shown.Great crazy eye peeking from the hair!
Krow (11/9/2008 @ 8:26 pm)
I like the americans and japanese versions. But seriously i think america is running out of movie Ideas O___o
^____^ I liked it none the less. Uzumaki is still the best though >___>
keirey (12/21/2008 @ 7:42 pm)
wicked. japanese version is scarier.
(1/20/2009 @ 10:43 pm)
ahaha, first part isn\'t that scary, but what I don\'t understand is, is the cursed woman whose in the video was a stalker?
antonszander (1/25/2009 @ 12:22 pm)
yea a stalker?? mmm, great film and i can understand a good bit. Japanese lessons are paying off great , ring 0 birthday is still the best tho sadako looks wicked in that film still 9/10
: ) cheers.
kerlif (2/2/2009 @ 2:48 am)
Do you fear what you cannot see? Yes, obviously. You cant see through the dark but you can hear. What if you cant see or cant hear too much? wouldn\'t it be even scarier? without a doubt. Sadako\'s hidden face is like the \"dark\" and the way she appears without a lot of fuss or dumb ghost noises makes this movie perfect. A sad story. A grudge. Vengeance. A Classic.
michaelc (2/10/2009 @ 8:37 pm)
scary movie. which is better this or u.s. version? hard to say. i think the video in the u.s. version is scarier.but they are both great horror movies.thanks for this site it is awesome.
Fran2424 (2/18/2009 @ 4:07 pm)
I love asian horror movies because they have great stories, but in this rare case I feel the american remake was so much better soley because of the special effects with the victims and and the little girl.
Seph (2/27/2009 @ 2:29 pm)
This was my first asian scare. It took many years for movie like this to be released in the UK. Horror movies from the west never scared me before, then I saw this with a group of friends and we all went very, very quiet. Afterwards we talked for hours about it, weeks, months even now, we still mention it. The cream of the crop and forerunner of all that is good in the genre. No wonder everyone wants to copy it eh?...hee hee.
10/10
Kira (3/1/2009 @ 5:36 pm)
I don\'t understand the end ! Americans are so stupid that they had nothig else to o so just copy the original. The are not good that\'s why.
yupyup (3/2/2009 @ 3:14 am)
big budget mainstream american movies suffer from \'the formula\' - or how to make a guaranteed profit return on producer\'s investment type of thinking - unnecessary sex and or romance plot/young trendy people/subconscious and symbolic racial undertones/simplistic and symbolic good guy vs bad guy plot/unnecessary gore or violence/neatly tied up and good guy resolved happy ending/ or suspenseful sequel franchise ending for horror movies.
Mike (3/4/2009 @ 3:52 am)
America seems to believe that replacing a unique plot with gore, sex, and drugs is okay. When Asians make a movie, the plot can be so convoluted and twisted that by the time you finish it, all you can do is sit back and ask, \'What the hell did I just see?\' And that\'s why most of the movies on this site rock.
aparna (3/7/2009 @ 10:37 am)
i bought ringu novel
Snoogykinz (3/10/2009 @ 2:53 am)
ITS SCARY!!! VERY SCARY!!! AHHHHHHH
Niko (3/18/2009 @ 11:37 pm)
A new classic! Still one of my favorite movies to get scared over. After a million viewings its still frightening.
Gabriel (4/5/2009 @ 4:54 am)
This girl is is.... Im scary. the girl in american version is like Linda Blair (exorcist)
sammysin (4/23/2009 @ 7:51 pm)
in all honesty, i did watch the ring in the cinema and it was awesome. but \"ringu\"... no where near as good. i probably would have liked it much more if i hadn\'t seen the u.s remake first. but side by side the u.s one just does it better.
Andres (5/8/2009 @ 2:24 pm)
This isnt tht scary, i like more the American version, nice tho.
gamemaster (5/11/2009 @ 12:08 am)
thanks for uploading..I like this one thanks for all your hard work getting all the movies on here
.... (5/25/2009 @ 3:48 am)
ummm...can someone tell me their favorite japanese movie so i can watch it?
Emily (5/30/2009 @ 3:34 am)
USUALLY I prefer the original version of an Asian horror film to the US remake (Ju-On, Kairo, Shutter), hence the reason I LOVE THIS SITE. (thank you!!)

...but in the case of Ringu, I actually liked the remake better.
Visitor_Q (6/15/2009 @ 2:25 am)
This idea is awesome. Too bad most people these days have forgotten what a VHS even is.
Art (6/20/2009 @ 5:07 am)
The film that started it all. Essential viewing for any fan of Asian horror films. Haunting, atmospheric, full of dread and impending doom. Absolutely 10/10. Hey, why is Dark Water, also by Hideo Nakata, not on this website?
GaarazKiti<3 (6/27/2009 @ 6:41 pm)
Wow, I have always wanted to see this, I havent even watched it yet, but all my friends say the Ring movies are retarded, but actually all the Japanese horror movies are real scary and I love them[: Also I am into like anime and stuff so sometimes I understand what they are saying, its cool!
Aoi Neko (7/5/2009 @ 12:18 am)
OK, so I\'m thinking I have too many negative comments and that judging by them, you\'d think I don\'t like anything. Truth is, though, I\'ve only been commenting on stuff I\'m seeing for the first time. So, to balance it out, I\'m going to go back and comment on some older ones, just to show I\'m not relentless negative and impossible to please.

_The Ring_ is actually the first movie I saw when I was first starting to explore Asian horror. And after years of watching the same old thing, I was just completely blown away. Inexpensive to make, it provided chills and sheer creepiness more than Hollywod movies made at many times the cost. This movie may seem a little unoriginal now, but that\'s largely because so many of its tropes have been adopted into the very foundation of the modern curse/ghost story movie. Its innovations have become the conventions of the genre. Coming to it cold, years ago, I was was just blown away by it, from the strange and cryptic tape itself to the infamous \"TV\" scene. A solid 10/10 and essential to appreciating much of what has followed it.
scare (8/7/2009 @ 5:46 pm)
im going to watch this with ear phone (:
mscash1 (8/8/2009 @ 2:57 pm)
loved this film as well as the american remake, a must see:)
Ando (8/10/2009 @ 8:01 pm)
SPOILER
An unnatural gait, lanky hair and a freaky eye - so horribly suggestive. The American remake robbed the climax of such shock and dread by having Samara coming out of the tv like a juggernaut, showing the face (which proves that special effects are no match for an inspired image, like Sadako\'s eye), and cutting away to show what Naomi Watts was doing, unlike the simple focus on Sadako\'s inexorable progress towards the screen. The remake also rids the story of much of its sense of supernatural mystery, particularly regarding the sea (frolic in brine, goblins be thine? scary shit). Some would suggest that many elements of the original don\'t translate well, but this implies a lack of imagination in the Western audience. Not entirely true, I hope.
Penisu (8/25/2009 @ 2:06 pm)
8/10 - The film that spawned an entire genre. You can\'t call yourself a J-horror fan until you\'ve seen this at least 37 times.

_______________SPOILER______________________

I\'ve heard that if you use quotation marks in your comments, Sada come crawls out of your monitor and puts forward slashes next them.

It sucks that I still like the US-version more :(
zuggernaught (9/1/2009 @ 9:17 am)

Della Morte (12/2/2009 @ 3:35 am)
you know ive been coming on here for a while learning more about the culture of asian horror and i have to say your comments about america are lame. you all should figure out where to point the finger. im american does that mean i love stealing movies??? hollywood is what you should be preaching about. also asain movies only count for a small percent of remakes. hollywood rinses out every beautiful classic i ever cared about including american films. holly claims that acting in a horror movie is the 2nd worst thing you can do with your career next to porn. but they see all the idiots packing up the theater to see a movie like the grudge that they have never heard of. simply because a freaked out scary asian woman pops out you. you should also consider the fact that someone had to sell them the rights, you tell me whos selling out. for all you who promote hate to america rember this dont hate the player hate the game
iloveasianmovies (12/12/2009 @ 8:02 pm)
Could you please upload Ring:Kanzenban? And also the two series? ring:the final chapter and rasen. not to be mistaken with the movie rasen. I\'ve searched and can\'t find it anywhere.
James (12/22/2009 @ 8:01 am)
how come this movie isn\'t scary? everyone says its terrifying but i actually thought it was really boring. At least the American one had actors who weren\'t annoying, a better person for the special effects and an overall more creepy feel.
tyau (1/16/2010 @ 7:53 am)
both asian and american version are great 10/10.................love to watch it again and again
Rejisan (2/4/2010 @ 9:33 am)
the queen of asian horror movies. it's already a classic. 9/10.
gasteropod (3/13/2010 @ 11:40 pm)
This is the scariest film I've ever seen. When I first saw it on TV years ago I nearly had a heart attack at the end.
gasteropod (3/13/2010 @ 11:43 pm)
Oh and that Tartan DVD cover is a big spoiler in my opinion, you should probably change it to the US DVD cover to avoid spoiling it for new viewers. Thankfully I saw the film before I ever saw that cover, it's always annoyed me that Tartan used that image though.

nice one.. i've watched this before and i wasn't really that scared. but i still prefer this over the remake.. ^^
Rubadubadoobag (5/16/2010 @ 11:42 am)
I know this may sound a bit mean but I've thought long and hard about those people who think The Ring is scarier/better than Ringu and I've realised that the only logical explanation is that they are 12 and as stupid as monkeys to boot. Which I guess is what the US studio executives were banking on. What I find hard to understand is those that say that they normally find the original foreign horror films better ... but that on this occasion The Ring was just somehow better. What was it, the awful scary horses, the remixing of the tape representing Sadako's subconscious into a random goth music video, or just Naomi Watt's big white mug? Its like they almost climbed up to normal adult human intelligence before falling off the retarded tree and breaking every branch ass-first on the way down.
Dina-chan (6/4/2010 @ 7:51 pm)
The American one suck so bad at the end!
I like the Japanese only :)
Lauren (6/9/2010 @ 10:34 am)
I saw the Hollywood version first and hated it. I love this version. The books are fantastic by Koji Suzuki
