Following the massacre of many thousands of Christians by soldiers of the Tokugawa Empire after the Shimabara Rebellion, Shiro Amakusa renounces the God who he feels abandoned them, and bargains his soul to the forces of darkness for the power to take his revenge.

He gains the power to resurrect the dead, and begins with Hosokawa, the wife of a samurai who mocked her for her chastity and then left her to die during the invasion.

best balance of drama, action and thriler.
visual effects are efficiently proven and outstanding story telling,
the cuts are in the exact place.
best samurai film i ever saw, visually and storyline based movie. i recomened the watch.

Beautiful!!!! Simply stunning like a diamond! This movie is so well made that I can't believe the Japanese took a horror movie seriously in 1981.

Usually they show the crappy Chinese story of a ridiculous priest banishing ghosts with toilet papers and doing awkward sign language. (No offense intended to Chinese people. Seriously)

I am just comparing the 1980's horror movies and their bad special effects but this movie is superb. I want to give the makers an award for their brilliance and effort.

I love these period pieces. Including horror is difficult to do in this style, but this film is seamless. Everything about this film is excellent. One of the best samurai films that I've ever seen. The fight scene on the beach was beautiful.

I recognized the actor from Lone Wolf and Cub Tomisaburo Wakayama. What great acting! A good movie!

Loved it to death. The first scene felt like I was watching a play. The cinematography in that scene was gorgeous. The story line is very creative as are the characters. I delightfully give this an 8.5/10. WTG Zone 4 finding it and uploading. Best movie I've seen in a while.
