Ironically, this was the first one of his movies I got, and used to be the only one I had of his.

Great movie. Very lengthy, but the tale is very interesting. I liked the whole mood of the film.

Wow. What a movie! Personally I loved it. But then, I am fond of slow-paced films; it\'s like reading a good book. The acting, the camera movements, it all was very well-done. However, there were some things I still don\'t quite understand, like what was the main point of the mummy, and what exactly happened to the missing girl? (And why is this called \"Loft\" when it has nothing to do with lofts, or am I missing something?)

Either way, love the movie, and Yoshioka is an absolute DOLL. ^///^

GA5: i was confused also, kurosawa is a thinkers type of film maker. the way i see it. it\'s meant to make you question reality or fantasy.

To answer GA5\'s question about Loft- I looked it up and there is a verb version of Loft and it means to lift or propel something. Which in the case of this movie makes more sense than the noun version of Loft which is a top floor covered by a roof.

**Spoiler Point**

What happened to the girl- After the editor burried her- the doctor dug her back up and brought her to the swamp and hooked her up and dropped her body in, whethere she was alive or not at the time is still a mistery.

The jist of it is the editor was homocidal and the doctor was delusional.

The whole point of the woman\'s ghost was to protect the author from both men- hence what happened in the ending.

I dont believe the mummy hand anything much to do with the dead girl, but the mummy was symbolic in the doctor\'s case. His work made him delusional and made him question life and death and their methods. It seems to me, that according to his mind he was helping the girl he killed by putting her in the same place he found the mummy to preserve her life as that of the mummy\'s was.

The key to the movie\'s plot lies in the doctor.

This is all why the word Loft makes sense to me in it\'s verbal version. The machine the doctor was using for the mummy and the dead girl- him raising them out of the water with the machine- in present tense is Lofting- the term in general to descibe what he was doing is \"Loft\".

I dont know if I am right or not, but that is how in interpret the movie- knowing Kurosawa he probably made the movie so that there is no one plot- we will all interpret it differently.

damn i found that to be long and boring
very little going on,with only a couple of nice moments. to me this was a very dull movie

I believe the story has some very interesting ideas, like the Doctor\'s psyche and how it changes and explains his actions. Trying not to give spoilers haha. This film had a great build up in the beginning, but I felt it fell to pieces along the middle. The hauntings were very boring, drawn out, and ultimately not scary. Music during the sequences was nill and the ghost was always within camera view, ruining any sense of suspense. I\'m not asking to be startled, just looking for some dramatic build up which was never there for me. Also this film seems to share similar qualities to many other Japanese horror films I\'ve seen. The main woman I believe was painted as a more independent and stronger woman, who just broke down and whimpered/screamed when rocks were thrown through the window, seemed out of character to me and it also seems to be a cliche of horror in that country where the woman must be vulnerable and fragile. Also the love confession seemed spontaneous and illogical according to the two character\'s interactions prior to the scene, like it was just thrown in their for some attempt at drama. And finally the ending contained no real impact for me, instead it was like they were telling us something which had been known the entire movie, and making it a failed attempt at a plot twist. While this movie had some good points in the beginning, it seemed to fall apart into a very predictable, suspense-less, and repetitive pattern. This is in my opinion of course.

Not only does this film drag along, but the conclusion left me with much disappointment and a few important elements unexplained.

I recommend you avoid this film.

boring, to dark most of the time, ( I ectually have seen it before, but it took me 45 min. to realise, becouse I forgot it.) I won\'t make that mistake again.

it got a bit stinky for me because of how drawn on it was. I can\'t exactly say that it was a bad movie though, and I feel that I can\'t say it was good either. You have to be in the mood for this one. If you have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do, then DON\'T watch this movie, it\'ll only make you feel like you had even less to do to begin with. :P I found it slightly amusing because the acting wasn\'t all that great.6/10

Screen just says buffering 0% and never loads, just begins to flicker... :'(
