In the Nineteenth Century, in Japan, the American journalist Christopher is traveling through the country searching Komomo, the missing love of his life that he had abandoned years ago promising to come back to her later.

He arrives in a shadowy island inhabited by whores and caftans, where he has an encounter with a deformed prostitute that tells that his beloved Komomo had passed away

It is an O.K. movie with some creepy twists.. it has an interesting story and I liked the cast.

Okay, perhaps it is just me, but I really dislike Takashi films. I dont remember ever seeing one I truly liked. I could be forgetting one or two. In any case, I disliked the story in this movie. Too many holes, WAYYYY over acted, and more than a bit boring. The disturbing parts were the torture parts, and that was it. 7 out of 10 for disturbing, 2 out of 10 for story.

Imahavah, check out one Miike film you might like, it\'s not horror at all. it\'s called The Bird People in China. Very good story. I agree with your assessment tho, Miike is too over the top for me.

Story-line wasn\'t all that great.
But the torture scene was gruesome!
I couldn\'t watch the torture scene.
Very traumatic--straight-out disturbing.
If you\'ve got time--watch it!
If not--it\'s not too worth it!

That hand was pretty creepy. This movie is pretty tough, and that\'s coming from a Takashi Miike fan. But I\'d have to say it\'s one of his best.

This was very fulfilling. The head had me getting nightmares, but I\'m glad I watched this. It contains a lot of twists, and an odd ending. The plot is very good, and I recommend this to those who like drama, but with a dark edge to it.

OMG! You have got to be joking. I am almost positive they show this kind of gayness on the scifi channel. Through out this entire movie all I could think about is what dork could possibly like this type of poo, but then I could see an overweight dork who attends the renaissance fair and plays dungeons and dragons.

I love this movie. I\'m not really into needles but I survived that scene and I\'m really happy. I wish it wasn\'t in english though, but it can\'t be helped since it\'s masters of horror.

Not the best performance from Billy Drago, but the films intentions were certainly delivered. Youki Kudoh (Memoirs of a Geisha - Pumpkin) did ok enough to fit her part and its origins.

I love Takashi Miike.. but yeah I think it would have been a little better in japanese. It was a good watch though, with the twists.. but I couldn't help laughing at Billy Drago's acting.. eww. it was just bad. hahaha. and no the deformed lady wasn't komomo..

I couldn't get it, why is it in the end Christopher saw a vision of Komomo when he shot the deformed prostitute? And when he is in jail, the spirit of Komomo and a young girl was beside him.. what does it mean?

Spoilers warning, but nothing more than what anyone else has said already.

So... that made absolutely no sense. Seems like (like most of the Masters of Horror episodes) it really was only made for the freak-out/gross-out factor. The story might have been remotely interesting if it made any sense. The hand thing was a bit creepy at first, but by the time he finally shot the woman it was just sort of overdone. And the acting was just horrible. Particularly the American guy's. I laughed a LOT more than I cringed because of the acting.

The deformed woman was just annoying. "Yeah, so this happened--except I lied, this happened--well, that's not really true either..." If it had just been left at the one lie, it might not have been so bad, but she just dragged it on and on. I'd probably have shot her, too, but I'd have shot her long before he did.

I'm still trying to figure out whether or not she was supposed to have been Komomo. Maybe the American guy was just nuts and she was Komomo the whole time? Feh, I'm done trying to figure it out. On visuals, I'd give it an 7/10. On general disgustingness, a full 10/10. If that's your game, you'll love this movie. On story, 3/10. If it had all been drawn together better and made sense, it would have been a decent movie, aside from the acting, which I'm not even going to bother rating. Depending on your tastes, it might be worth a watch, or you might not want to bother with it at all. I personally like a good story over cheap thrills, but this... didn't really have either. If you're into torture and dead babies, though, this may just be your thing.

Overall, 3.5/10 for me. It was just ridiculous, in my opinion. Apologies to anyone who did like/understand the entire thing--just my opinion.

I have to agree with Comma. This movie was crap. It was arthouse or even groundbreaking. Everyone saying this is a masterpiece or even good please explain the storyline to me. You can't and that is just lazy feed masses commercial sell out work. If you thought it was great you're in the sell out crowd with Takashi cause there wasn't anything in the film that a freshman film student on the way out the door on a failing report card couldn't accomplish with that incoherent self-indulgent garbage.

That was fucking horrible. Ugliest film ever. NASTY. Everyone in it is horrible. The director should seriously check-in to his local mental hospital. No kidding. What is the intention? To make the audience sick, or commit suicide from seeing so much cruelty?
Should make any man think twice about visiting a brothel, anyways LOL

i like this movie. its just the right amount of weird...though i agree with everyone that maine dudes acting was horrific. all the more fun to laugh about i guess. ;)
