What a cool Horror Anime, love it.

This series is fantastic. Besides "Vampire Hunter D", I credit this series as one of the founders of the anime movement and it's popularity in the U.S.
It is unfortunate that this series was cut short early, due to the fact that the manga was not far enough along to sustain it. You can see much more of it in "Hellsing Ultimate" although for sheer feel, bizarre music, ect. I think this series has "ultimate" topped.

@Deathnell.. I just wondered just how short did they cut this series? I have the first twelve episodes on DVD recently and haven't been able to watch them yet ;) I plan to watch them soon >.< yeah, so I wondered how many more if any there are? Thanks everyone!

Very well done & entertaining. I'd like to sample that funky piano groove in the opening song.
Thanks for posting.

I've watched this series b4, definitely a must watch! The new extended ongoing series is a little bit weak though...

I offered to put this up months ago, what made you change your mind about it? I have all the Ultimate Hellsings up to the latest one released a few weeks ago, they are light years beyond this series if you want to get them up. They are all subtitled and done in very high quality. The Ultimate OVA's are all at least 44 min long each, rather than these 20 min episodes and there are 7 that have been released so far.

@ Deathnell and Katy. It's not that this series was cut short because of the manga, this series really had very little to do with the manga. By the time this series came out the manga was already started way back in 1997 and ended in September 2008. This series was cut short early because the anime company that was doing it had left the story line all together and the owner of the story pulled the rights rather than see it go the path of Naruto, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist etc. The OVA or rather the Ultimate Hellsing has the full support of said owner as they agreed to follow the manga to the letter. If you don't know what you are talking about DN, it's best not to say anything rather than sound like a blowhard who thinks he knows and hasn't a clue.

also you should correct the release date, you have the date right for the manga, but this series of anime wasn't released until 2001-10-10 to 2002-01-16. You can read that in the credits. From 2003-10-04 to 2003-12-27 STARZ bought the rights to the dubbed version and released it in the US.

Vampire Hunter D came out in 1985 so it could be called one of the founder of the movement, but only loosly. The Gundams had long been a phenom here by then as well as other anime no one really thinks of as anime like Dragonball, Speed Racer, Macross series's, Voltron. Three Tales would actually be the first, released in the US way back in 1963 followed soon by the classic Astro Boy, which to be perfectly honest was the "founder of the anime movement in America. Akira also deserves it's place there as it was in the 70's along with Speed Racer then the Gundams and Dragonball. So maybe Vampire Hunter D deserves a place there, but Hellsing? No, sorry I love the manga and the anime but a founder of the anime movement in America, not even close!

Karen, I think 12 episodes are all there are of the original series. The last two or so episodes go into a storyline that has nothing to do with the manga, although they are pretty enjoyable nonetheless. You can watch "hellsing Ultimate" to continue the saga (and do so more accurately) although I found some of the comical dream sequences to be strangely unfitting, which might be the reason they were left out of the original series. Thanks for the insight, DJ. I was under the impression that the ending of "Hellsing" was due to the manga not being up to date, lord knows that this has messed up others like Naruto, but what you say makes sense.
On the issue of "Vampire Hunter D" the reason I mention it as being one of the "founders" is due to a collaberation between America and Japan in this project. Before this, Anime was considered an amusing hobby of the Japanese alone, although you are right, some of these series were enjoyed in the U.S.

THe Ultimate Hellsing series (which I am in the process of uploading the subbed version of)follows the manga to the letter, if you have watched them you know how little that this 13 episode series has to do with the actual story line and why the owner of the Hellsing name pulled his support. In fact in total, only 4 episodes of this entire series had anything to do with the manga, and they were all out of sequence. The comic dream sequences were spot on with the manga, I'm sorry to tell you. I can upload a scanlated and complete series of the manga if you like so you can see my point. I have been translating and subbing anime and scanlating manga for more than 9 years now, so there really isn't much in the way of anime I haven't run across by now. I didn't try and explain it in a way that made sense, I just stated the facts as I know them.

All of the series I mentioned, I mention specifically because they were popular in the US, long before Vampire Hunter D. D was a great movie, and I will give it all the due credit, but it was a mid term comer at best, Hellsing it a noob, as much as I love the series.

This is SHIT compared to Ultimate Hellsing, which is also on AHM. Watch it because it's Thrilling and very much like the Manga
Bintock (5/10/2010 @ 2:45 am)
The original based here which deviated from the manga's outlook has always been my favorite of the two Hellsing renditions-ultimate while still coming out never took the place of wonder it seems within my heart
