Country & Year:   (Korean) (2011)

Tags:   (Mystery|Murder|Thriller)

The film is based on a true yet unsolved murder case from the early 1990s that is known among Koreans as the “disappearance of the frog children.” In 1991, five elementary school students told their parents that they were going to hang out on a nearby mountain to catch frogs. They never came back.

In the movie, a TV producer, the devastated parents of the missing children, a professor and a detective all take different stances on the case and in the end one of the parents becomes a primary suspect. In reality, the case morphed into a national scandal.

Very well done & heartrending.
I was surprised to find out that South Korea has a statute of limitations on murder. Here in Canada, we don't have one, nor do the Americans. In the UK & EU, I'm not sure.
Thanks for posting.

@plop888: Its the same here in Germany, too. We also have no limitations. Really good movie.

Good lord, what kind of sick sonofa.. Watching that mother cry almost brought tears to my eyes and Im a full grown man >.< ;
Funk the cops, politicians too. If I was one of the parents I would have lost my mind within the first year. Great movie, starts out almost like a misdirect, I thought it was going to be like that the whole way through being that its based on actual events but toward the last 1/4 segment I was on the edge of my seat. R.I.P, I hope they get that bastard.

Japan also has , or at least had a statute of Limitations on Murder and War Crimes. If you have seen the Chinese made film, Men Behind the Sun, that sick twisted doctor who dissected thousands of living Chinese People (he called them "Logs"). He came out of hiding after the Japanese SOL ran out and lived on a Government Pension for the rest of his life,

It could be that in countries with such a limitation film makers wait till the time runs out to let the film hit the theaters because if not it could hinder the ongoing investigations.

One thing I really dislike about korean films is their usual slow pace. I mean, I'm always wondering why their films seem to be at least 2 hours long.
And korean films often depict policemen as incompetent. I really hope that this is nothing but comic relief.
I would have prefer the point of view from one of the parents, emotionally spoken. Acting wise, the character of producer Kang deserved the main role.
Last but not least, I found quite some actions illogical.

Altogether, I give this film 7/10. Thanks for the upload.

what is this on my face?
That part with the parents was really hard to watch without feeling something, pretty good movie :3

Lol they probably keep a slow pace because they have less people with attention deficit disorders. The longer the movie the harder it is to shoot, what with all the camera angles, etc. All Americans want to see is action, action, ACTION! Complaining about a movie being too long lmao! They're a bit more psychological from what I've witnessed, less CGI, each scene is meant to make you think, sometimes poetic. My absolute only complaint about this movie is the music, there were scenes where they could have milked even more emotion especially when the two cops were almost whispering to each other. The cops are crazy over there, always looking to end things quickly, thats why they have so many demos. Koreans definitely got the whole suspense/thriller/serial killer formula figured out, idk how they do it, murderous and classy all at the same time.

I pay attention to every single second. That's why it's hard for me to last for more than 2 hours playtime. And no, I won't stop the film and pause because I don't want to start thinking hard about the film during the pause and build up any expectations towards any possible further development and possibly be disappointed because the real thing didn't match my expectations. I rather feel tired by watching the whole film at once and start evaluating it right afterwards. Perhaps, sometimes I feel tired and am picky.

And no, I'm not american and don't watch stupid american films filled with action but with nothing else to talk or even think about. (Please take note that I'm not stating that all american films are on the same stupidity level.)

Wow.... Great movie, great acting. Film of the year? No, but its a must watch if you like some good drama. As for it being slow, I didn't really find it to be slow. The overal pace of the film seemed pretty consistent. This movie might piss you off. I know I was pissed after watching it.
GraceyMay (7/15/2011 @ 4:16 am)
I completely agree with Billy about American films. I think everyone is used to fast-paced things like fast food, fast-paced action movies, and in general instant gratification. A lot of that has to do with the rise of social media and ridiculous instant constant updates of sites like twitter. But that's just my opinion. I love the slow paced suspense of korean cinema like this.

Loooove Yong-Woo Park. He is awesome actor. He is also in World of Silence another good movie :)
This movie is beautiful and sad. Those children deserve justice.
sheronda (7/20/2011 @ 4:24 am)
This movie was beautiful and sad. And to know that this was based on actual events is even more disturbing. I was pissed off at quite a bit of people. The producer, the parents, the professor, even the police chief, all not doing it for the children but for themselves, just to make a name. and the fact that no one knows what really happened. Innocent people got hurt by being wrongly accused, children were murdered, families were shattered and the villagers lives would never be the same again. What a beautiful, sad movie.
Naomi (9/16/2011 @ 5:57 pm)
I need to look into this event more to know how much is movie, and how much is fact. But either way on point of the movie? BE READY. TO CRY. And not just over the loss of 5 little lives, but out of anger towards people involved and out of shame in the fact this is not a rare situation.
cassidy (3/26/2012 @ 2:52 am)
Great movie but what i dont understand is why towards the end of the movie, why didnt the producer get the professor involved when he knew who the killer was??
SmS (6/4/2012 @ 6:23 am)
Now I'm crying.
I think a SOL on murder is ridiculous!
Al (8/8/2012 @ 12:16 pm)
I feel like I gotta watch this but I have problems with loading sockshare. It SOCKS!
Tattufreak (9/21/2012 @ 4:18 am)
This was an exciting movie!! So sad that this happened to these innocent little boys!!
everyman (3/4/2013 @ 9:20 pm)
Not a horror movie per se (except how absolutely crazy the killer is), but a must see for anyone with a normal attention span. The worst part is that the murders were even more gruesome and crueler than was depicted in the movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog_Boys Shotgun to the face? How could anyone..?
